Seven days of spring - Day seven

It is the final day of our mini series, seven days of spring. For day seven, we are back with the Japanese camellia, so here are a couple more facts about the marvellous plant. There are many types of flowers that bloom on the Japanese camellia, but there are five main styles. These are single, semi-double, irregular semi-double, formal double and elegant. In Chinese culture, the camellia is seen as a symbol of good luck and have even been used for offerings to gods during the Chinese New Year.

The variation shown today is called the black lace, which can grow up to 5m high. In the spring, these graceful, deep pink/red, rose-like flowers grow, which contrast beautifully against the dark green foliage.

A beautiful black lace flower that has bloomed.
